The Story Begins...
Hi. I am not really aware of the Earth Hour campaign because it is not commercialize in Malaysia. (Sorry for being an ignorant people... hehehe)
I've heard about this thing when I saw the post from Juice last year but oh well, I couldn't care less at that point of time.
Anyways,
Earth Hour 2009 is getting more interesting. Wanna know why? Read this...
"This year, Earth Hour has been transformed into the world’s first global election, between Earth and global warming.
For the first time in history, people of all ages, nationalities, race and background have the opportunity to use their light switch as their vote – Switching off your lights is a vote for Earth, or leaving them on is a vote for global warming. WWF are urging the world to VOTE EARTH and reach the target of 1 billion votes, which will be presented to world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009.
This meeting will determine official government policies to take action against global warming, which will replace the Kyoto Protocol. It is the chance for the people of the world to make their voice heard.
Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007, when 2.2 million homes and businesses switched off their lights for one hour. In 2008 the message had grown into a global sustainability movement, with 50 million people switching off their lights. Global landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum, the Sydney Opera House and the Coca Cola billboard in Times Square all stood in darkness.
In 2009, Earth Hour is being taken to the next level, with the goal of 1 billion people switching off their lights as part of a global vote. Unlike any election in history, it is not about what country you’re from, but instead, what planet you’re from. VOTE EARTH is a global call to action for every individual, every business, and every community. A call to stand up and take control over the future of our planet. Over 74 countries and territories have pledged their support to VOTE EARTH during Earth Hour 2009, and this number is growing everyday.
We all have a vote, and every single vote counts. Together we can take control of the future of our planet, for future generations.
VOTE EARTH by simply switching off your lights for one hour, and join the world for Earth Hour."Taken from Earth Hour webpage.
In the support of Earth Hour, Malaysia also playing their part.
CapSquare will be participating in the campaign. They are organizing the Earth Hour / Walk for Hope .
Here is a bit information taken from Axcess website:
At 6.00pm on 28th March 2009 (Saturday), we would like to call upon all urbanites to go the extra mile for Mother Earth by joining a charity walk with their family and friends. The walk will start at Persiaran CapSquare, it continues along Jalan Ampang and back to Persiaran CapSquare (it will take approximately 25 - 30 minutes). We would like to gather approximately 500 people to send a message that KL urbanites are united in taking action on climate change. The walk will be led by a marching-band and Charm All-Stars Cheerleaders and will also include celebrity participants!
At exactly 8.30pm, CapSquare will turn off its lights in support of Earth Hour. There will be a countdown to darkness at CapSquare and participants and patrons will also have a perfect view of KL Tower turning-off their lights at the same time. You can dine by candlelight at our F&B outlets and enjoy a host of low-powered shows such as a fire-eating show, brass band performance, oriental drums, acoustic performances by talented local artistes and a cheerleading performance.
Tickets for the walk will be sold at RM10 and proceeds will be donated to WWF-Malaysia. Each participant will get a FREE Earth Hour T-Shirt and a Recycle Goodie Bag.
Where to get your tickets?

Hello ..
I like the idea os switching the lights for an hour and TNB can actually recalculate their bonuses this yr due to this 1 hour loss ..
this one thing an individual can do with nothing much to ask in return.. BUT .. why party after that? i have heard few places will be having some sort of parties, live performances which requires more electricity n produce more energy emissions ? why must we celebrate it ? why do we malaysians always find every possible reasons to parties ? it defies the purpose of the original cause.. is it not enough just switching the light and spend time calmly at home w family n friends instead of go out spend more gas and money outside? sad . really sad.
Thanks for promoting Vote Earth. The new Vote Earth 2009 global website has launched. There is an element on the site that incorporates Google’s Friend Connect and we want to get 1 billion people on the site by November 2009, just before Copenhagen.
To get involved, all you need to do is:
1. Go to the site - www.voteearth2009.org
2. Register with Friend Connect
3. Send to a friend and get more people to sign up.
It would be great if you could help getting more people involved - your clients, your collegues and you. Thanks for your help.
Get involved and VOTE EARTH!
