AFTER PARTY: When Lapsap Meets Shinichi Osawa & Masatoshi Uemura @ Zouk KL (4/12/2009)

The Story Begins...

It was the second time Shinichi Osawa and Masatoshi Uemura a.k.a Off the Rocker came down to KL for a gig and it was an electrifying night.

I like his remix of Digitalism's Pogo, his cover of Chemical Brothers' Star Guitar, Our Song and all but I just don't know what was missing at that gig... Maybe the usual crowd have seen him at Barsonic earlier this year and decided not to come for the second round?

Sorry, I digress.

Anyway, the Lapsap duo did a great job in warming the floor for us but once Osawa and Uemura took over, it was pure rocking sound! But some tracks were played twice. Don't know why. The last half hour was fun. Blink went crazy, same goes with Osawa! It was something that don't usually happen at the mainroom! haha... Some VIP behind the DJ console went nuts and became the headline of the night! Excuse them for stealing the limelight, Lapsap & Off the Rocker!

Overall, the set was just ok.

AFTER PARTY: Global pres. Laidback Luke @ Zouk KL (27/11/2009)

The Story Begins...

Sorry for the delay post, I could not find the right time to write. Hehehe.

So, did any of you attended the awesome Laidback Luke gig at Zouk last month? Let me sum it for ya.

Mainroom was dead, at first... but it sucks the crowd into the dancefloor by 12.45am, that is 15 minutes before the mayhem began, and Laidback Luke totally dropped radioactive atomic bomb at Zouk KL! Fuck, that dude was genius! Laidback Luke wasn't really laid back, his tunes were drugs to our ears.

His track selections were great, ranging from electro, house and his signature trance remixes such as Show Me Love, a remix of Out of the Blue, Traffic and end it with Leave the World Behind. Hands down, everyone probably converted to become a Laiback Luke follower that night! haha!

So if you think there is no hope for House music in Malaysia, you're wrong! :)
Big ups to Zouk KL for showing some love.

I think this is the best set I've heard so far after Joachim Garraud this year!

After the huge success for the first FUTURE event, they are returning once again to bring to seasoned clubbers one of the most anticipated event of all time to usher in New Year’s Day 2010. Returning on a bigger and bolder installment this time around, FUTURE’s organizer Future Sound Asia (FSA) continues pushing the boundaries of dance music in Malaysia. Spurred on by the mammoth success of UOX PLAY FUTURE, FSA aims to assemble a major dance fiasco in the nation.

Confetti, fireworks and poppers aside, this 31st December 2009 will go down in history as FUTURE rocks KL Live (formerly known as Ruums) from 8.00pm until the wee hours of the first day of the New Year. Clubbers and party-goers can expect a superb line-up of international acts and local DJs which include worldwide phenomenal ‘The Bloody Beetroots’. Partners-in-crime, Bobby Rifo, an international indie producer and DJ Tommy Tea intermix together to create a genre of dance music that is a fine blend of fidget and electro house. The duo has its trademark of wearing Venom masks while performing which often link them to the similarity of Misfits and Daft Punk. Scenesters, Lap Sap and renowned award winning music mixer DJ Goldfish will set the mood for us to usher the NYE celebration.

Continuing with the celebratory vibes, on Saturday 2nd January 2010, FUTURE will host yet another orchestrated dance event featuring renowned dance music pioneers, Basement Jaxx. Grammy award winners for “Best Electronic Album” to add to the two BRIT’s Awards for ‘Best Dance Act’ and numerous other awards. Basement Jaxx is one of the most recognizable names in the party scene. Originating from UK, the duo consists of Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe and they first rose to popularity in the late 1990s. The duo is famed for spinning a wide range of house music which includes electronic, deep house and tech house. The sensational duo is proudly supported by our very own Victor G who recently opened for Underworld in Singapore and DJ Azran which is currently making waves with his residency in Sultan Lounge..

For both The Bloody Beetroots and Basement Jaxx, this will be their first visit to Malaysia and Kuala Lumpur is set to provide them with a welcome that they’ve never experienced before! The newly-renovated KL Live is the perfect setup to embrace a world-class event such as FUTURE. The large stage and ample space in the venue provides an ambience that is unlike any other. A high-tech music console, powerful lighting and sound system set the mood for an evening of serious partying.

Get ready for two nights of unlimited dance music!

There will be no mercy on the dance floor.

BLOG THING: The year that was...

The Story Begins...

The year passed too fast, 2009 is about to end. 2009 can be considered as the best party year that I have experienced so far. Good acts have been invading Klang Valley despite of the government interference... One issue after another, I believe organizers are still trying to deliver their best in pulling the crowd and giving us the taste of the best music from the globe.

Zouk KL is one of the best venues for big DJ names from the Top 100 list by DJ Mag. We had Armin van Buuren earlier this year, Paul van Dyk, Gareth Emery, Joachim Garraud, Andy Moor, Brodinski, A-Trak, Sinden and many more to mention. Aside from events, its usual regular nights such as Ghetto Heaven, Lapsap, Twilight Actiongirl and Mambo Jambo are among my favorites.

Massive crowd at Zouk during Armin van Buuren's gig

Without a doubt, my feeling towards Euphoria by Ministry of Sound is growing this year after they brought us good names from the scene such as Seb Fontaine, Matt Darey, Vandalism and Dave Seaman. Nevertheless, the Hed Kandi series has become a trademark to the club. Good job for adding some spices rather than the usual club nights.

Hed Kandi night at Euphoria

Another party venue that is in my favorite list would be Mist Club in Bangsar. I went there twice for Dirty South and Niklas Harding and I think the club is great. It is simple and big like a warehouse (if you put the tables away) with a stage and great lightings. Che'Nelle had a gig there last month and Bjorn Akesson is coming for a special gig this weekend. The club is probably standing strong among the giant brand names like Zouk and Euphoria.

Niklas Harding for Klubbers.net Anniversary at Mist Club

Outdoor rave parties can easily captures the interest of EDM lovers. In 2007, Global Gathering was attended by 35,000 party revelers from across South East Asia. Same goes when Tiesto headlined 2 Days of Freedom last year. You know how crowded it was, even the phone line was jammed!

Through my lenses, I can see that indoor raves are the "in-thing" at the moment. Remember UOX Play Future and SpeedZone Tour MotoGP? Both events were held indoors and it was the best raves I've been so far this year. A new series of DJ workshop-cum-party, Music Conference Asia (or better known as MC Asia) is the pioneer for having DJ event at KL Live @ Life Centre. Yoji Solo and Future event will be held there soon. Heineken event will be happening there in next year too. Indoor parties/raves are picking up now.

Steve Aoki took over the decks at UOX Play Future, Kiara Indoor Arena

I wonder what's coming in 2010. I really hope for a great surprise as I heard good acts are coming every month beginning January to mid 2010. I believe if EDM fans keep on supporting the scene and stand united, there is hope for a better industry.

We are not bad people at all!

ADVANCE WARNING: Yoji Solo Live in KL @ KL Live (11/12/2009)

The Story Begins...

I bet you still remember Yoji's set at Speedzone 2007. Who doesn't? Everybody was hyped with Fabio Stein's Techtris in his set! Most of us double the experience at XLive Music Festival, Genting last year. It was crazy but his set at Speedzone was wayyyy better. No doubt.

He is back again for the third year in a row! Check it out.

What?
Yoji Solo Live in KL

Where?
KL Live

Who?
Yoji (formerly known as Yoji Biomehanika - don't know why!)

How?
Tickets can be purchased at all Axcess counter, priced at RM68 and RM88, inclusive of 1 drink.

Why?
Super Star DJs from around the globe have become the driving force in building the image of Electronic Dance Music. Having already achieved rock star status in his country of Japan, Yoji is on the forefront of this Evolution in the persona of a rock star trapped in a DJ’s body.

Yoji’s powerful stage presence and performance, teamed with his unique style of dance music has made him one of the icons of the global dance movement. His unique fusion of music derived from the genres of Trance, Techno, Hard Dance and more, has disabled the ability of the press to keep up with his latest style.

Yoji has showcased his talent to fans all over the planet at the world’s most prominent nightclubs and events / festivals such as: ID&T’s Sensation Black, Dance Valley, Godskitchen, Global Gathering, Mystery Land, Avalon, Gatecrasher, Slinky, Judgment Sunday, Creamfields, Ageha Tokyo, the Guvernment to name but a very few.

His residency GIGA is the leading dance music club event in Japan for the past 7 years. A countless number of chart topping CD, DVD album releases by Japan’s record company giant AVEX, as well as fashion and accessory items selling under his brand, not to forget a Yoji watch especially designed by Seiko is all part of the growing Yoji phenomenon.

Internationally, Yoji’s productions released under his label HELLHOUSE are more popular than ever. On the remix and production front Yoji has worked with some of the worlds most respected dance artists.

Those who have seen and heard Yoji have been stunned by his performance, by his unique and often obscure but always-powerful track selection, along with his faultless and charismatic mixing ability. His style and technique is a cut above the rest; his musical taste is fresh and uninhibited, making him a leader not a follower.

Yoji is an enigma, a DJ that when you see, you will understand why so many love and respect him. You will no doubt see that Yoji is on the forefront of making the world understand why a DJ’s performance is the most important part of the electronic music scene and why DJ’s are becoming the Rock Stars of our generation!

Check out this vid. The track is fuckin' sickkk.

AFTER PARTY: Music Conference Asia Music Factory “The Beginning” @ KL Live (21/11/2009)

The Story Begins...

What went down at the Music Conference Asia (M.C. Asia) last week? Mentoring session by two cool international DJs and loud-thumping music! :D

The inaugural Music Conference Asia (M.C.Asia) Music Factory “The Beginning” has successfully attracted conference participants, both industry professionals and music enthusiasts of the Electronic Dance Music, from the region, including Singapore, Indonesia, Australia, Japan and Thailand just to name a few.

You guys should have come early to hear the mentoring workshops presented by Canadian Producer, DJ and Label Owner, DJ Preach, and World’s Top 100 DJ, Marcel Woods from the Netherlands. Indeed, it was very informative. This is the first in our shores, event in the Asia Pacific, whereby conference participants received first hand introduction and guidance from Preach and Marcel about the professional world of music production

The first session of the workshop, Preach spoke on three key topics including the “Marketing Strategy for Professional DJs”, “The Love-hate Relationship between Technology and Traditional DJ-ing”, and “Knowing Your Tools to be the One in Music Production”. In the second session, Marcel touched on “The Evolution of Music Label”, “The Challenges in the Digital Age”, and “Artist development and Music Label Promotions”. Very, very interesting.

After the serious talk, the organizer has also thrown an appreciation party in the evening to entertain and reward everyone. Besides international headliners Preach and Marcel Woods, the no.1 most popular Nordic DJ 2008, Marcus Schossow was also invited to perform at the party, supported by our local talents Affiq and Funko Munky.

Among all DJs played that night, I'm surprise with the sound of Preach. His music is awesome! I wasn't really partying hard that night but his mix got me in the mood! Kudos to the man.

The party attendance was good. Wanna know something? Global Sound Masters will be contributing RM2 to the “GSM Music Fund” for every ticket sold. The money collected will go towards the nurturing of new talents in the region. We have done something good for the industry! :)

Look out for the second installment of M.C. Asia. It's gonna be happening on January 23 next year. Richard Durand and Sean Tyas will be playing for the appreciation night! I know you don't want to miss this.

Will update you on that soon! Now let's move on with some party pics!

AFTER PARTY: Hujan - Mencari Konklusi Tour Finale @ KL Live (22/11/2009)

The Story Begins...

For a local concert-slash-gig production, I think Hujan's Mencari Konklusi Tour is the best by far with awesome venue and great crowd that complements the whole atmosphere... plus great music.

The show was opened by two local bands; The Dia and Couple, with Yasmin Hani on the emcee. We thought we were late but thank god, we only missed the first act. Couple was half-way through their set playing "C'mon Operator".

Thanks to a friend, he let us enter the VIP section and we've got ourselves the best view in the house!

Hujan was set to rock onstage around 4.30pm and it was very amazing. Their show was divided into two sessions which are the acoustic and electric with a memento video playing in between to show their appreciation to their fans and the journey throughout the tour. Pretty impressive, I must say.

Besides playing the usual set of songs, Hujan lived up the crowd by playing a cover of Kris Dayanti's "Mencintaimu". Surprisingly, indie crowds scream their lungs out to sing along with Noh. Isn't that ironic?

Loque of Butterfingers was brought to the stage by Noh to sing "Rantai Rasa Cinta" together with him. According to Noh, the song is Loque's favorite track. Like it or not, it is my most favorite Hujan track!

When Noh went onstage after the second video, he played "Ku Mahu Kau Tahu" solo and the moment got me close to tears. Very beautiful performance, it was!

Hujan played almost all tracks from the first and second album with some unreleased tracks such as "Lonely Soldier Boy" and an encore, "Ludah Amerika". They end it with a bang, man!

We bought the Mencari Konklusi CD and had our groupie moment. Hehehe. A great show with only RM20 for entry charge? Totally worth it.
