AFTER PARTY: Rock N Roll Kot? @ Cloth & Clef, KL (12/7/09)

The Story Begins...

If you think Sunday is pretty mind-numbing, think again! Cloth & Clef transformed our unproductive Sunday night into something motivating with Rock N’ Roll Kot? (for those not in the know, the name is supposed to be ironic; kot is Malay slang for “maybe”).

The night started calmly with music from singer/songwriter Mohd Jayzuan followed by the lady with a guitar, Wani Ardy. Both created soothing ambiance in the joint, especially Wani Ardy’s blend of double bass and acoustic guitar during her set.

Akta Angkasa launched us into another dimension with their music. Fro some reason or another, they decided to only play the one song, before the crowd started getting restless. Without any hesitation, they played another to appease the fans’ bloodlust. Their raw sounds were awesome, and ‘Biarkan’ was the perfect final song before they gave way to the all-conquering Khottal.

Funnily enough, nearly half of Khottal had to stand on the floor as they could not fit all ten members on stage. Their onstage showmanship is undeniably overwhelming. Plus, they announced that Hafidz turned a year older that night. The band and everyone sang him a ‘Happy Birthday’ ditty, which put the crowd in the mood to go “woo” for the ‘Woo Song’.

Also in the bill was Sforzando! and an indie band from Hong Kong, Chochukmo. This latter, a five-piece band as a representative for Hong Kong in the Global Battle of the Bands in 2008 but they didn’t win unfortunately. Chochukmo’s music is basically experimental rock, fusing together elements from jazz to funk, to bossa nova and to dance. Their oddly-titled ‘Tell Her (Laura I Love Her)’ is catchy indeed.

Rock & Roll Kot? turned out to be the perfect event to end the weekend. Yes, people may call Cloth & Clef a small venue, they proved once again that intimate is always the best policy. No kots or maybes here. This was rock ‘n’ roll.

AFTER PARTY: Meet Uncle Hussain (KL Muzik Festival 09) @ Hard Rock Cafe (5/7/2009)

Sunday, July 12, 2009

The Story Begins...

After their big break two years ago, Meet Uncle Hussain rose to become one of the biggest bands in the local music scene. They even scored some music awards, most notably Song of the Year at the Anugerah Juara Lagu. Losing them, or at least this incarnation of the band, will be a waste.

Unfortunately, vocalist Norazlan Rosle or Lan decided to leave the band as he is tied up to other commitments. The band officially announced Lan’s departure at the KL Muzik Festival on 5 July in Hard Rock Café, Kuala Lumpur, which was their final gig together.

Lan also announced that he has already formed a new project called Azlan & the Typewriter, which will be hitting the airwaves soon. And besides looking for a new singer, the remaining members of Meet Uncle Hussain are also currently working on new material for a future album.

It wasn’t just the fans that packed the floor of Hard Rock Café; even industry bretheren such as Komplot were there to witness Lan’s final gig with Meet Uncle Hussain. Nobody wanted to miss their chance to see whatever they could of this sad but memorable moment, with most of them standing on chairs to get a clearer view.

The band played every song they’ve done together, including ‘Pari-Pari Di Bawah Angin’, ‘La La La Kerjalah’, and their most recent hit ‘Putihnya Lukisan’. As the band played their last and most famous song ‘Lagu Untukmu’, Lan asked the crowd, “Can we play this song a little longer?” Proving that maybe he wanted to stall the final goodbye for as long as he could.

Everyone was brokenhearted. The performance concluded with Taja and Lan hugging, with various friend of Meet Uncle Hussain joining them onstage. All the best to Lan and the new Meet Uncle Hussain!

AFTER PARTY: Pesta Malam Indonesia 3 @ Stadium Bukit Jalil (Carpark A) (20/6/2009)

Saturday, July 4, 2009

The Story Begins...

In this third episode of the Pesta Malam Indonesia (PMI), Fat Boys Events (the organizer) wow-ed the Indo-music revellers by bringing us Indonesian music heavyweights such as Padi, Gigi, Andra and the Backbone, and everyone’s favorite returning acts; Sheila on 7 and Dewa.

Joining me was Tasya, Nisa, Najib and bunch of their friends.

Eventhough each band played a decent set, it was still satisfying. I am not expecting Dewa to play longer because it's a festival! :)

We were surprised with Lucky Laki's appearance to open the set for Dewa 19. What a surprise! So7 played his usual wild set with more songs from the latest album. Great energy delivered by Duta... and shit, Padi was really, really good!

Good job to Fatboys! Keep up the good work. Bring more great bands from Indonesia! I want Nidji!

Check out the photos...

I'm planning to go to Indonesia for a music festival. Care to join? hahahah

HEAR ME: My July 09 Mix

Friday, July 3, 2009

The Story Begins...

Adli is a DJ wannabe. So what? *giggles*

Damn, my external hard disk is not functioning and most of my collections are stuck in there. That shouldn't be a reason for me to stop making new mixes, right?

I found some good Electro/Fidget House tracks. The last track of this mix is the Shinichi Osawa's remix of Never Can Say Goodbye by The Jackson 5 as a tribute to Michael Jackson. My idol, your idol, our idol.

Hope you enjoy this mix.

Tracklist is available upon request.

P/s: Please tell me if it's bad.

Thank you.
