HEAR ME: Doves - Kingdom of Rust

The Story Begins...

I think everyone should listen to this album. I've been playing this album for more than 3 times now. I don't know why. It's amazing. Try listen to the first track, Jetstream. It's nice. Another recommended track would be Birds Flew Backwards, Spellbound and Lifeliness. Previously, I heard their track titled Caught By the River in the O.C. soundtrack and there is no reason why I should not listen to this one. If you're into progressive rock, you have to check this one! FYI, Tom Rowlands from Chemical Brothers helped out for the "10:03" song arrangement.

AFTER PARTY: MISTIQAL presents Dirty South @ Mist KL (18/04/09)

The Story Begins...

Hey guys. Sorry for the late review on recent events. My laptop faced a major problem recently and this is my third time formatting within this month. I hate viruses!

Anyway, what went down at Dirty South's gig?

Two words, good music!

I love the set. The tracks were good. The club wasn't full as what I expected but it was just nice for the crowd to dance.

The night was warmed by Mr. Fluff or better known as Bo. Bouncy yet entertaining. As soon as Dirty South hit the deck, more crowd were pulled to the dance floor and he played some favorite tracks such as Open Your Heart, Let It Go and It's Too Late.

Cool stuff.

He was nominated for Best Remixed Recording for the Kaskade track titled "Sorry" at last year's Grammy but Benny Benassi won the award. This Australian DJ is currently under the spotlight and has been playing in lots of places in the globe.

I think it was a good moment when he played "Open Your Heart". The song is just beautiful and there is something about it which I can't describe.

Check out the live video of Dirty South playing Open Your Heart at Miami's WMC 2009.

HEAR ME: Gomez - A New Tide

The Story Begins...

Gomez has proven the world that they are standing strong for more than a decade in the music industry. This English indie rock band had recently came out with a new album entitled "A New Tide" comprising 11 tracks with a bonus track, Engine (which only available on iTunes). My track of choice would be Mix, Natural Selection, and Very Strange. I kinda like the album because it is very relaxing and suits my chill moments. The upbeat tracks such as Airstream Driver is good too with a bit of electronic element.

P/S: A review mentioned that this album will disappoint Gomez fans BUT newbies (like me) will surely have to check out this album.

ADVANCE WARNING: Mistiqal presents Dirty South @ Mist Club, Bangsar (18/4/2009)

The Story Begins...

What?
Mistiqal presents Dirty South

Where?
Mist KL

When?
18th April 2009

Who?
Dirty South

How?
Guys: RM 50 + 1 Drink
Ladies: RM 40 + 1 Drink
*Ticket Counter opens at 6pm on event day

Why?
Over the past 3 years, Grammy Nominated DJ/Producer Dirty South aka Dragan Roganovic has made an instant name for himself in the dance music industry, impressing the who’s who of international DJs, producers, media and music lovers with his uncanny ability to dish up ready-made dancefloor bombs.

Inspired by everyone from Led Zeppelin and later The Neptunes, Dragan focused his attention on producing mash-ups and bootleg tracks, with his natural ability to produce devastating dancefloor weapons seeing DJs clamber for promos – something that still characterizes his rampant popularity.

No surprise that Dirty South stands as one of the hottest and most in-demand new artists in house music. His remixing credits read like an honor role of dance music’s finest, having reworked revered artists such as Depeche Mode, Mark Ronson, Tracey Thorn, Snoop Dogg, Roger Sanchez, Josh Wink, TiĆ«sto, Chris Lake, Fedde Le Grande, Ferry Corsten and TV Rock.

He’s toured the world, gigging throughout Europe, the UK, UAE, Canada and the USA and playing massive festivals across Australia including Ultra Music Festival, Creamfields, Global Gathering, Good Vibrations, Future Music Festival, Summadayze and many others.

With only a few short years under his belt in the international production scene, Dirty South’s potential to achieve tremendous musical heights seems limitless. As his trademark blend of beats inspires more and more house lovers from across the globe to sit up and take notice, the future is certainly looking bright down south.

Here’s the best bit. Amidst his massive tour across the world (he has upcoming shows in Shanghai, Tokyo, London, Australia and etc), DJ Dirty South will be gracing the stage of our very own MIST CLUB, Malaysia!

Another great news; Mr.Fluff, one half of CosmicSpaceMunkys will be opening for Dirty South! Mr.Fluff once showcase his sound together with his former member, Joey-G at Tao Club of Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas where they performed alongside Gym Class Heroes, Kanye West, Paul Epworth, Erick Morillo and other big named artistes, musicians and DJs.

How fantastic. This is indeed a show not to be missed! ;)

AFTER PARTY: SpeedZone Tour 2009 @ KL Tower (4/4/2009)

The Story Begins...

Upon arrival, after parking nearby the entrance to KL tower, at the foot of the hill, people could be seen lining up in a long queue to hop on the free shuttle service to the top, provided by the organizers of Speedzone Tour 2009, kudos to them for preparing such detailed help needed. For those that did not want to queue, a short 5 mins walk uphill was required, which was also good excercise.

So going in to the party ground was hassle free. Thanks to MyPartners that provided us (me & photographer) with complimentary pass, no lining up was needed. After entry we reached the Red Arena, which was already 3/4 filled with party people, having fun dancing to the sounds of Alexander Technique.

Heading over to the Speed Arena, Daniele Davoli was already pumping heavy kicks to the crowd, preparing everyone for main 2 DJs for the night.

Speed Arena, being the main attraction of the event, got my heart stuck to it when Paul Oakenfold came up and did his shit. Crazy remixes of his all were cued up ready to be shot as main bullets.

By midnight, the crowd were already going nutz drooling and getting high from the beats of Paul Oakenfold, fireworks show started to appear from the bottom of KL tower, just beside the Speed Arena, making the crowd go even more wild.

Half an hour later, the man of the law, Judge Jules appeared on the stage, and kicked off the whole night with classic and also top hits of Trance and Hard Trance, even my personal favourite Armin Van Buuren - Rain came out, making the crowd jump non stop to his set. BPMs were raising, shouts and cheers were going louder and louder. Judge Jules really killed the night and made everyone worth coming to this wonderful rave.

Despite the last minute law given to the organizers, im saying they managed to pull this successful rave off, achieving once again, 10 thousand party people, and another memorable F1 themed party in Malaysia.

Rating 3.5 out of 5, Red Arena was slightly on the downside, the DJs did not do their very best, soundsystem tripped if im not mistaken, or it suddenly went so soft there. Also no alchohol rule, is a lil dissappointing, but nevertheless, a great and memorable party. Many thanks to MyPartners Communications Soo Hoon and Xaviera, being so supportive by providing 2 complimentary passes for me to review this wonderful event.

HEAR ME: Metric - Fantasies

The Story Begins...

Fantasies is the fourth studio album by Metric (a Canadian New Wave/Indie Rock band). The album was released last month (March). However, four tracks have already became the hit single since the end of last year. Their first single kicked off from the album, "Help, I'm Alive" was the real deal for my listening pleasure. The track is already on its 11th week in the Canadian Hot 100 and became the third TOP 20 songs after "Monster Hospital" (from Live it Out) and "Poster of a Girl" (from Live it Out). Four years is not a short period of time for this band to come out with new materials but hey, it's worth the wait.

You'll love them if you like Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Ladytron.

AFTER PARTY: Jamiroquai Live in Malaysia @ Sepang SIC Helipad (5/4/2009)

The Story Begins...

Whew, at last!
I have the time to update! hahahaha.

Hey people... What went down at Jamiroquai's concert last week?

Bad traffic to SIC, mud party, raining cats and dogs, good opening acts and.... PURE 2-HOURS OF FUNKADELIC MOMENT!

Thanks to Amal for getting us the best parking at SIC. We are really appreciate it and thanks to Junk for the free tickets!

Maliq & D'Essentials opened the concert with their beautiful Jazzy tunes such as Free Your Mind and everyone's favorite Terdiam followed by Naturally 7, an all-boys acapella group from US, which blew us all with their beatbox-ing and harmony singing skills before Jamiroquai hit the stage.

I was expecting Jay Kay to wear the red indian hat but he didn't :(

Anyways... The music was very soothing and made me dancing to most of the upbeat tracks.

Jamiroquai played the Jazz version of Love Foolosophy before the funk version went in and most of the songs they played were longer than the original version. They are a true performer indeed.

The 2-hours concert was ended with an encore of Deeper Underground.

Surprisingly, Jay Kay & Co did not play Virtual Insanity and they didn't play my favorite Corner of the Earth :(

Overall, it was a lovely night. Jay Kay did not fail to entertain the crowd with his signature moves. Salute!

Photos!

Wohooo!

Jay Kay left the stage.

What do you think of the show? Drop some words. :)
