BLOG THING: The year that was...

The Story Begins...

The year passed too fast, 2009 is about to end. 2009 can be considered as the best party year that I have experienced so far. Good acts have been invading Klang Valley despite of the government interference... One issue after another, I believe organizers are still trying to deliver their best in pulling the crowd and giving us the taste of the best music from the globe.

Zouk KL is one of the best venues for big DJ names from the Top 100 list by DJ Mag. We had Armin van Buuren earlier this year, Paul van Dyk, Gareth Emery, Joachim Garraud, Andy Moor, Brodinski, A-Trak, Sinden and many more to mention. Aside from events, its usual regular nights such as Ghetto Heaven, Lapsap, Twilight Actiongirl and Mambo Jambo are among my favorites.

Without a doubt, my feeling towards Euphoria by Ministry of Sound is growing this year after they brought us good names from the scene such as Seb Fontaine, Matt Darey, Vandalism and Dave Seaman. Nevertheless, the Hed Kandi series has become a trademark to the club. Good job for adding some spices rather than the usual club nights.

Another party venue that is in my favorite list would be Mist Club in Bangsar. I went there twice for Dirty South and Niklas Harding and I think the club is great. It is simple and big like a warehouse (if you put the tables away) with a stage and great lightings. Che'Nelle had a gig there last month and Bjorn Akesson is coming for a special gig this weekend. The club is probably standing strong among the giant brand names like Zouk and Euphoria.

Outdoor rave parties can easily captures the interest of EDM lovers. In 2007, Global Gathering was attended by 35,000 party revelers from across South East Asia. Same goes when Tiesto headlined 2 Days of Freedom last year. You know how crowded it was, even the phone line was jammed!

Through my lenses, I can see that indoor raves are the "in-thing" at the moment. Remember UOX Play Future and SpeedZone Tour MotoGP? Both events were held indoors and it was the best raves I've been so far this year. A new series of DJ workshop-cum-party, Music Conference Asia (or better known as MC Asia) is the pioneer for having DJ event at KL Live @ Life Centre. Yoji Solo and Future event will be held there soon. Heineken event will be happening there in next year too. Indoor parties/raves are picking up now.

I wonder what's coming in 2010. I really hope for a great surprise as I heard good acts are coming every month beginning January to mid 2010. I believe if EDM fans keep on supporting the scene and stand united, there is hope for a better industry.

We are not bad people at all!

The End
